Audio Reader

The Kansas Audio-Reader network is a reading and information service for blind, visually impaired and/or print-disabled individuals in Kansas and western Missouri. Services are offered free of charge to anyone in our listening area who is unable to read normal printed material.

24-hour closed circuit radio station provides readings of daily newspapers, magazines and best-selling books.

Other services are available including on-demand service, special request recording, audio description of live theater and a sensory garden in Lawrence featuring Braille-labeled plants appealing to both touch and fragrance.

You can pick up an application for free Audio-Reader's services at Louisburg Library.

Talking Books

Recorded materials loaned free by the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped are available in recorded audio disc and audio cassette formats.  Both disc and cassette recordings require specially designed playback equipment, which is loaned free to eligible individuals and institutions.

As Talking Books is a federally funded service, readers must complete an application for service.  The application needs to be certified by an accepted authority such as a medical doctor, an optometrist, a nurse, a home health worker, social worker or others.  In the case of a reading disability, an M.D. or D.O. must certify the application for service.

You can pick up an application for Talking Books at Louisburg Library. For more information about Talking Books: http://www.tscpl.org/services/talkingbooks/index.asp
