Louisburg Library District #1
Technology Plan
2008-2011
Overview
Louisburg Library District #1,
Miami County, Kansas was voted into being in 1967, the
first District Library in Kansas. As such, the library
set its own budget and mill levy with the approval of
voters. Taxes are countywide, not citywide, with the
district boundaries following those of USD 416. The last
census showed the population of USD 416 to be 6,783
residents. The library has 7,673 actual card-carrying
patrons. There are 37,700 materials and a yearly
circulation of approximately 67,200.
The Louisburg
Library website allows patrons to access our materials
catalog from outside the confines of the library in
addition to providing them with information about
programs and services provided by the library. All
library materials are cataloged using the Online
Computer Library Center (OCLC). Computers are filtered
to meet the requirements of the Children’s Internet
Protection Act (CIPA).
Mission Statement
The mission of Louisburg Library is to preserve and
provide resources and a diverse multimedia collection
which contributes to the educational, cultural, civic
and recreational needs of the community.
Background and
Current State of Technology
Louisburg Library has been automated using Winnebago
software since 1999. The upgraded version is Spectrum
Circ-Cat, Version 5.2, which runs on a Microsoft 2003
Server with 17 workstations running Windows XP Pro. The
library has a T1 line and offers high-speed Internet
access to 6 patron computers and two laptops that can be
checked out in-house. Wireless access has been available
since January 2006.
